To ensure the health and safety of our staff, we have decided to extend the Work From Home (WFH) arrangement until 17 May, and the Campus will continue to stay close. We continue to look at how to bring everyone slowly back to work and this may be in incremental steps and when the time is right.
We understand that some of you may have to juggle multiple responsibilities in your new work-from-home environment, and for others, motivation and engagement may not always come easy. But we are here to help. HR will be rolling out WFH The Yoma Way will include a WFH Wellness Centre, WFH In a Box, and a series of programs aimed to help you stay engaged while working remotely. Stay tuned and join in the activities.

Hope you all had a restful and safe Thingyan Holiday. As announced, work from home will be extended from Monday till the end of the month. Sharing here some guidelines and tips to help us focus, work efficiently and professionally, while working from home – WFH The Yoma Way.
#People2020 puts
our employees at the forefront of all our decision making, and in this covid
situation, the health and wellbeing of our employees is our greatest priority.
There is much uncertainty about whether the Stay Home notice
will continue. Regardless, to ensure the health and safety of our staff, we
have decided to extend the Work From Home (WFH) arrangement until 4May. Some
entities have already decided to extend WFH until a later date, while
arrangement will need to be different for front line staffs. Please check with
your line manager to determine how your work may be impacted.
For anyone who needs to travel back to Yangon, we will provide a
week’s notice prior to any further change so you can plan accordingly.
Covid will be with us for a while. Staffs should expect that
some form of WFH arrangement in the next months. We will need a high degree of
flexibility together to operate in these uncertain times.
We need to work hard to make WFH a success. To support remote
working, we have developed guidelines to help our employees operate as
effectively as possible. The “WFH The Yoma Way” guideline will be posted on
Yoma Connect today. We have also established the WFH Wellness Centre which will
have programs aimed at keeping staff engaged and motivated, and to ensure there
is a support structure in place for staff that need assistance.
This has been a Thingyan full of intense discussions, reading and planning for the covid situation. I want to outline some of my initial thoughts.
1) The increases in covid cases in Myanmar are in line with our expectations. It’s likely that we will be seeing many more cases per day.
2) Extending a lockdown policy beyond Thingyan seem inevitable. Some curfew and stronger lockdown are also highly likely. We should expect things to be in lock down through April, maybe even through May.
3) Recession triggered by Covid is the deepest in the last 100+ years. Economies are put into complete standstill. Many businesses have zero revenue and have to cut jobs and other costs, which triggers less spending. Every business will be affected.
4) Lower business activities will last for a long time. The virus will remain for a long time as vaccine is 12-18 months away and may not be effective. Covid is spread without symptoms, so people’s activities will be seriously reduced until we find a way to test people regularly.
5) Global financial crisis in 2008 took 10 years to recover. This recession is 4x worse. It may be many many years before we recover.
6) How we live, work and interact may be different going forward. Every business need to think about survival and business strategy in the new world.
In this crisis, only the fittest will survive. We need to be fully ready, warm up our muscles and face this storm together.
This morning it was confirmed that one of our Pun Hlaing Estate residents has tested positive for COVID-19. The patient is quarantined in the government hospital, while the family has been put into self-isolation in their house. The Estate Management team is working with the family to thoroughly trace their movements.
For the Estate, our residents are already taking conservative safe-distancing measures, and we have now closed facilities such as the gym, swimming pool, tennis courts and golf club. The Country Store will only reopen after deep cleaning and disinfecting.
This hits close to home, and is a stark reminder that we have to take social distancing and hygiene seriously and implement any precautionary measures to stay safe and stay healthy.
I want to thank you all for your hard work and dedication over this difficult year. I also want to thank our front line staffs and hospital staffs for the dedication over the past weeks to prepare our covid response. These are critical times and I am grateful many of our HEROes are stepping up to this fight. THANK YOU!!
Happy Thingyan!
Melvyn
Yoma Car Share, one of the first IoT projects in Myanmar
When we talk about Yoma Car Share, if a person has never heard of it, the response is always “Really?”, “You can do that?”, “In Myanmar?”, “How?”, etc. The surprise and the incredulity give you a thrill and the satisfaction you get when the person goes ahead, uses our services, and gives feedback of “amazing.” Yoma Car Share is the brainchild of Yoma Fleet in bringing IoT (Internet of Things) to the people of Myanmar. Our goal is to “build a better Myanmar for its people” through technology and bring the standard to the next level.
So, what exactly is Yoma Car Share?
Yoma Car Share is a self-drive hourly to monthly car rental that is cashless, keyless, contactless, system automated, and available nationwide. From making the reservation to payment, the system is managing seamlessly, giving us the operational efficiency in offering better services.
We are always thinking about how to make our users’ journey easier and more flexible. We introduced the tap card system to access our cars in 2018 and the app in 2019. In 2022, we upgraded our app with Yoma Car Share 2.0 and introduced a Yoma Car Share Driver app, an app for our user’s travel companion to access the car.
We are not stopping here and upgrading the app regularly with versions using the Agile (Scrum) methodology.
PLUS+ by Yoma Fleet – Easier, Faster, Smarter Lease-to-Buy Program in Myanmar
It all started with a “Phone”.
At Yoma Fleet, we wanted to be a part of Yoma Group’s People Initiative 2020 program. We came up with the idea that every Yoma employee should have access to a smartphone without the need to use expensive and cumbersome financing providers. We launched YOMA+ in November 2020 for Yoma employees in collaboration with Yoma Group HR to lease-to-buy phones and tablets through monthly repayment from their salary. By 2022, YOMA+ is now called PLUS+ by Yoma Fleet. We have onboarded 25 organizations on PLUS+, and it is growing. On PLUS+, employees can lease-to-buy consumer electronics, hotel and travel packages, cosmetics, healthcare, and education services.
There is no document required and our turnaround time from order submission to approval is within 1 day and collection 2-3- days after, positioning PLUS+ as an Easier, Faster, and Smarter lease-to-buy program.
All organizations access our products and services from the same portal. PLUS+ allows operations, HRs, suppliers, and employees to use the same system and technology making PLUS+ unique and user-friendly.
PLUS+ started out as an MVP (minimum viable product) but it has grown so much. We continue to incorporate the feedback for improvements and will soon be introducing an upgraded version of PLUS+ with an app.
To learn more about PLUS+ and explore available products and services, visit the following websites.

The future is here with AR glasses
The release of Meta’s AR glasses is part of a broader push by the company to expand its presence in the AR and VR markets. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that he believes AR and VR will be the next major computing platform, and that his company is investing heavily in these technologies in order to be at the forefront of this shift.
Latest news says Meta’s first true AR glasses are expected to hit the market in 2027. The project, codenamed Orion, has been in development for eight years. It will be a more technologically advanced and expensive piece of hardware that can project high-quality holograms of avatars into the physical environment.
Introducing Microsoft 365 Copilot
Copilot combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with your data in the Microsoft Graph and the Microsoft 365 apps to turn your words into the most powerful productivity tool.
Copilot is integrated into Microsoft 365 in two ways. It works alongside you, embedded in the Microsoft 365 apps you use every day — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and more.
Business Chat works across the LLM, the Microsoft 365 apps, and your data — your calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings and contacts — to do things you’ve never been able to do before.
You can give it natural language prompts like “Tell my team how we updated the product strategy,” and it will generate a status update based on the morning’s meetings, emails and chat threads.
With Copilot, you’re always in control. You decide what to keep, modify or discard. Now, you can be more creative in Word, more analytical in Excel, more expressive in PowerPoint, more productive in Outlook and more collaborative in Teams.
GitHub data shows that Copilot promises to unlock productivity for everyone. Among developers who use GitHub Copilot, 88% say they are more productive, 74% say that they can focus on more satisfying work, and 77% say it helps them spend less time searching for information or examples.
Note As of March 2023, Copilot is only available in technical preview mode and is accessible through OpenAI’s Codex platform.
